Before you share your story,
Let me tell you mine...
You probably don't care to know how I started my photography journey, as it's pretty much the same for all of us. "Started out as a hobbyist and at a very young age was gifted my first point and shoot camera.. oh and also I love coffee..." yada yada yada :)
But what might intrigue you is that outside of photography, I am known for my fierce Birkenstock tan lines, my love for sourdough, and how I somehow became our neighborhood's historian, but more on that later...
How Did It Start?
Before my photography business, I worked for a FinTech Startup in Columbus, OH helping our company implement new business verticals. I was what you call a badass boss babe. Somehow, in the midst of the pandemic, I found myself sitting on an ultrasound table, masked and alone, while my husband waited in our car in the parking lot. It was then I found out that I was growing not one, but TWO babies. Imagine that FaceTime, if you will. Knowing what raising a 2 year old was already like, I found myself hysterically sobbing to my husband that I was going to have to quit my job, sell my car, and that we were going to have to move. I called my boss and took the day off, and then did what any boss babe would do. I grew those 2 humans to full term, yes 38 weeks, took my maternity leave, and then gracefully put my notice in upon my return. So yes, I quit my job and I did sell my car, but thankfully with some good ole fashioned budgeting we didn’t have to move. Fast forward 6 months, as a stay at home mom to 3 kids 3 years and under, I found myself desperately searching for a creative outlet, and that’s how this business started.
Some More About Me
Sourdough
I taught myself to make sourdough in 2024. My starter's name is Doughlene and I do all my shaping and scoring to Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift. I always make 2 loaves, one for my family and one to share with another. My favorite inclusion so far has been French Onion where I use caramelized onions, gruyere, and thyme. It's like a warm hug on a cold day!
Cooking
Once upon a time I managed a cooking blog called Cooking in the Hills. I was actually published in 614 Magazine and even had a photo featured on Crate + Barrel's website! Once the twins came I found myself just trying to survive. 3 years later though you can find me cooking for my husband, friends, or dinner parties. I recently co-hosted a Barefoot Contessa party - wigs and all!
Rare Disease Mom
In 2022, after almost 6 months of tests, 29 nights in the hospital, 212+ finger pokes, and several specialist consults our son was diagnosed with a rare chronic kidney disease called Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus. He is 1 of 5000 people in the US to have this disease. We are finally riding the wave of stability, but the journey it took to get here is not lost on me.
Town Historian
No, it's not a Gilmore Girls role. Back in 2023, a neighbor asked me if I would help photograph an event or two of our neighborhood's 4th of July. What I didn't realize is that I had said yes to the entire line up of events, thus landing me the title of WoHills Historian. I take so much pride in documenting our favorite time of year. Our annual tradition is on it's 54th year, and my photos are a part of that!
There is nothing I love more than watching your family grow.
I'll be there to capture it all and help you remember these moments for a lifetime.
